Some fun First State events to dive into this weekend.

1. The fifth annual Historic Odessa Brewfest is back to please your lips and entertain your ears.

There will be more than 50 local, regional and national craft breweries, plus live music on two stages, local gourmet food, colonial re-enactors/beer brewers and artisans.

The event is for ages 21 or older.

The Brewfest will begin at Cantwell’s Tavern, 109 Main St., Odessa from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday. COST $55. INFO odessabrewfest.com or 378-4119.

2. Genre-bending band Blue Oyster Cult pioneered the heavy-metal style while inspiring psychadelic jam bands.

The outfit is known for their hit singles “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” Burnin’ for You” and “Godzilla.”

With heavy riffs and catchy hooks, Blue Oyster remains a staple for heavy metal acts.

The group has a reputation for incorporating elements of sci-fi and dark occultism into their live show.

3.  The Groove Merchants didn’t sell their soul. They just sell audiences on a good time.

They’ve demonstrated this while opening for acts like Vance Joy, Portugal. The Man and Judah & The Lion.

In December 2014, The Good Merchants recorded their debut album. Adding a full-time trumpet and occasional horn section, the band has since released its second effort, titled “Take It,” in August of 2016.

The funk/blues and rock band was initially formed at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
