67-year-old Ellendale woman killed
Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred on Monday, November 5, at 1:30 p.m. An eastbound Toyota Matrix was stopped for a posted stop sign at the intersection of Shingle Point and Gravel Hill Roads in Milton as a southbound GMC Sierra pickup truck approached the intersection. For unknown reasons, the Toyota failed to remain stopped and pulled out directly into the path of the GMC. The front of the GMC struck the driver’s door of the Toyota, causing substantial damage to the driver’s compartment and ejecting the operator.
The operator of the Toyota, a 67-year-old female from Ellendale, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin. Also pronounced deceased was the victim’s Doberman Pinscher, which had been in a cage in the rear of the vehicle.
Impairment is not a factor for either operator.
The operator of the GMC, a 38-year-old male from Georgetown, was properly restrained. He was transported to Beebe Medical Center, where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
Gravel Hill Road and Shingle Point Road were closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
