New Castle County Executive Chris Coons announced Nov. 3 that the county’s non-profit partner, New Castle County Pride, Inc., has been awarded $200,000 in Community Services Block Grant funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) by First State Community Action Agency and Delaware Health and Social Services to launch the "Re-wire to be Re-hired" program.

The program will take place at seven county libraries, including the Appoquinimink Library in Middletown, and will serve an estimated 700 persons looking for work by helping with resume preparation, interviewing skills, job seeking skills, computer skills training, and assistance in locating training and educational opportunities to increase their competitiveness in the job market. Training will be provided by Advanced Staffing Training Institute.

County Executive Chris Coons praised NCC Pride for their efforts on behalf of county residents and for their partnership in this endeavor. “New Castle County libraries have always been a great resource for our citizens looking for a book or magazine, for a place to learn or relax. Now, with 22,000 of our fellow citizens out of work, our 400 free computers have also become a critical way for us to help them search for jobs. Last month alone, our computers registered over 100,000 user sessions - the highest one month total we have experienced.”

Participants must be at least 18.

To register for the "Re-wire to be Re-hired" program, call Corinthia Pierce in the Community Services Department, 1-302-395-5621 or email capierce@nccde.org.
