Smyrna High’s Business Professionals of America Chapter received the Professional Cup as Chapter of the Year, along with 35 awards at the State Leadership Conference Awards Brunch on March 9. Thirty-three students attended the annual conference in Dover with advisors Mrs. Kay Conaway, Mrs. Angie Hewes, Mrs. Lori Holford, Mrs. JJ Scott, Mrs. Robin Smith, and Mrs. Alexandra Ulrich.

The state Professional Cup which is given to the top chapter in the state based on special recognition awards (seven), torch awards (12), and number of awards received at the state conference (35).

Students competed against students from every Delaware high school for state honors.

Twenty-five students qualified to attend the national conference in Anaheim, California in May.

Students who won awards and qualified for the National Leadership Conference are:

1st place – Stephanie Dawson, David Hershberger, Jackie Holford, Colin Hoveln, James Leidy, Rosie Mujica, Tina Mujica (twice), Taylor Scuse, Jacob Stoner, Darrean Taylor;

2nd place – Jordan Bark, Emily Conboy, Tresha Edmond, Jackie Holford, Josh Hoveln, Ericka Keene, Alli Kennedy, Mary DiMeo, Eric Morris, Rosie Mujica, Tya Scott, Matt Storck;

3rd place – Kailey Brewer, Tresha Edmonds, Allie Hall, Eric Morris;

4th place –Jennifer Monh, Tina Mujica, Taylor Pugh;

5th place –Mary DiMeo, Tyquan Holloman, Alli Kennedy, James Leidy.

The 12 students who received torch awards based on their community and service activities are: Jordan Bark, Josh Hoveln, Alli Kennedy, Jennifer Monh, Eric Morris, Rosie Mujica, Shannon Riley, Sarah Rolison, Tya Scott, Matt Storck, Darrean Taylor, and Bo Voss.

All of these spectacular Smyrna students are the reason SHS received the Professional Cup for outstanding chapter for the second time in three years!
