At its Aug. 18 meeting, the Smyrna Board of Education approved the second and final reading of a policy change that will give advanced placement courses at Smyrna High a slightly higher weight for GPA purposes.

Under the policy change, the weight of A.P. courses will increase from 1.06 to 1.07 for students who complete the A.P. exam.

The new A.P. weight policy will apply to students in the class of 2014 and subsequent classes.

SHS students in the classes of 2011 through 2013 will remain under the previous weighting system.
