The Smyrna School District invites you – Smyrna students and community members – to participate in an essay contest to promote a Smyrna School District core value: Integrity. There are two categories: adults (18 and over) and students (K-12).
Contestants are asked to write a maximum 500-word essay on the following topic: Integrity is the quality of being honest, fair and good. People that have integrity are trustworthy. Write about a person you admire who has the qualities of integrity. Tell in detail why you chose this particular person, what specific qualities this person possesses, and give specific examples of how he/she demonstrates integrity.
Adult winners: First (gold), second (silver), and third (bronze) place winners will receive medals and certificates noting their accomplishments. Their essays will be published in the Smyrna/Clayton Sun-Times. Ten runners-up will receive a certificate of accomplishment. Winners and runners-up will be recognized during the “I Love the Smyrna School District” day February 27.
Student winners: First (gold), second (silver), and third (bronze) place winners will be selected at each grade level (K-12) in each building. Winners will receive medals and certificates noting their accomplishments. First place winners at each grade level will have their work published in the Smyrna/Clayton Sun-Times. All winners will be recognized during the “I Love the Smyrna School District” day February 27.
Contest rules:
Essays should be a maximum of 500 words.
Essays should be original work.
Adult essays should be typed with name, address and phone number on the essay.
Students in grades 7-12 should type essays.
Adult contestants must live in the Smyrna School District. Student contestants must attend Smyrna School District schools.
The deadline for students is February 5; deadline for community members is February 12.

Smyrna School District students should hand essays to their teachers: grades K-6 to classroom teachers; grades 7-12 to English/language arts teachers.
