A fire at a vacant house north of Smyrna March 18 was intentionally set, the State Fire Marshal's Office has ruled.

The blaze was reported at about 9:40 p.m., on Route 13 at Anchor Inn Road, about four miles north of Smyrna, near the former BP Express 24 convenience store, across from the Frederick Lodge.

Citizens' Hose Company of Smyrna responded to the alarm and was at the scene for two hours and 39 minutes, assisted by fire companies from Clayton, Townsend, Middletown, Odessa, and Port Penn.

The house had been vacant for some time, possibly years, according to Scott Bullock from the State Fire Marshal's Office. Damage was estimated at $20,000, Bullock said.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is continuing, Bullock said.
