A Clayton man has been charged with raping a 17-year-old girl on Aug. 16.
Justin L. Zacheis, 31, of Clayton was charged with four counts of second degree rape without consent, State Police said. He was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center northeast of Smyrna for lack of $8,000 secured bond to await another court appearance.
The victim, from Centreville, Md., reported the crime at the Smyrna Police Department. Smyrna Police contacted Delaware State Police because the reported location of the crime was the man's residence on Longridge Road west of Clayton.
The victim said she was an acquaintance of Zacheis and has known him for several months. The victim had been dropped off at the home of Zacheis on Aug. 16. She said he began to make unsolicited and unwanted requests, and she felt threatened by his demands.
The victim said she was sexually assaulted a number of times between 8:30 p.m. and midnight even as she pleaded for Zacheis to stop.
Following the assault, the victim called for a friend to pick her up, and the friend eventually took her to the Smyrna Police Department.
State Police arrested Zacheis on Aug. 17.
