The Delaware State Police are investigating a one-car rollover accident that occurred in Odessa Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 10:30 a.m.
Police said Najee Briggs, 18, of Townsend was driving his car at a high rate of speed eastbound on Old State Road (Rt. 299) just east of Old Corbit Road. As he rounded a curve, he lost control of the vehicle.
Briggs overcorrected while trying to steer the car back to the right lane and drove off of the north edge of the road. The car went into a ditch, up an embankment, into the air, struck some trees, and then overturned back onto the road where it came to a rest on its roof.
Briggs, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered injuries to his face, shoulder, and ankle. He was transported by emergency crews to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Briggs was charged with driving at an unreasonable speed, reckless driving, no proof of automobile insurance, and no driver's license in his possession, police said.
Old State Road was closed for about 20 minutes as the roadway was cleared.
