Lake Como in Smyrna is open, but swimming is at your own risk.

Smyrna Town Manager Dave Hugg said the beach is currently open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, but no lifeguards are on duty.

To save money, town officials decided during the budget process not to renew the town’s contract with Kent County Parks and Recreation to provide the lifeguards at the beach.

Hugg said the state continues to monitor the bacteria levels at the lake, and the beach will be closed on days when the levels are too high.
