Since the opening of Lake Como this summer season, the Smyrna Police Department has received complaints of trespassing and disorderly conduct committed by juveniles venturing out into non-swimming areas of the lake.
Due to budget constraints, there is no lifeguard on duty at Lake Como, which makes it more necessary for parents to look after their children when they are utilizing the lake area, police said in a July 8 press release.
On July 5, Smyrna Police charged three juveniles with trespassing and disorderly conduct for swimming across the lake and onto the property of homeowners surrounding the lake.
When advised that they were trespassing and that they would have to leave, the juveniles started yelling at the property owner and using profane language. The three boys, ages 15, 15 and 16, were arrested and processed at the Smyrna Police Department and turned over to their parents pending a notice to appear from the Kent County Family Court.
