Clayton Council discussed direct deposit for employees, the public hearing about the new town hall, the upcoming bike summit, and a parade route request during the council meeting Monday night.
Direct deposit
The Town of Clayton now offers direct deposit of paychecks for all town employees who would like to take advantage of it. During the February 23 council meeting Councilman Winn Abbott reported that the town wanted to offer direct deposit to its employees.
After negotiations with Wilmington Trust, Council announced Monday night that the bank was going to allow the town to offer direct deposit free of charge to all town employees who want to use it.
Public hearing on town hall
The town is holding a public hearing about the plan for a new town hall on April 2 at 7 p.m., at the current town hall on Main Street. The building committee met this past week and narrowed down possible contractors to construct the new town hall on what is now a vacant lot on the corner of South Bassett Street and Smyrna Avenue.
The public hearing is for anyone who would like to hear about the plan or offer comments about the new building. The purpose of the meeting is to let residents know what is going on with the new building and make sure everyone has all of the information about it.
Bike summit
Kate Layton from the Delaware Bike Summit and Dover-Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization attended the council meeting to announce the upcoming bike summit.
The Bike Summit will be in Dover on Friday, April 24 and is free, however to attend you must register. At the summit, bike safety will be discussed along with community views on bike lanes and paths.
Governor Jack Markell and other state officials have been invited to attend the summit.
Parade route
The parent of a Clayton Elementary student sent a letter to council asking for approval to hold the annual May Fair Parade. The parade route will be down Industrial Boulevard to Reed Street, Main Street, and back to the elementary school where they will have festivities. The parade will be on May 9 at 10 a.m.
