As Del-One members celebrated the grand opening of their first solar-powered branch on May 21 with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, the Secretary of DNREC, Collin P. O’Mara, commended the credit union for utilizing natural resources while decreasing its dependency on conventional power generation systems.
By harnessing the power of the sun to fuel its branch operations in Smyrna, the credit union will realize a savings on its utility bills which equates to a savings for its members, all of whom own a share of the credit union. The solar panels, which convert sunlight into electrical power, are mounted on the South side of the branch’s roof and are unnoticeably integrated into the overall design of the facility. Not only will the system help reduce air pollution, but it will also pay for itself in just a few years.
Members of Del-One have been outspoken with their approval of this “green” initiative and the credit union hopes to pursue solar power as standard operating procedure in all future branches.
The new energy-efficient branch is conveniently located at 201 Pharmacy Drive in Smyrna on Route 13, next to Rite Aid at the Carter Road stoplight. The branch offers convenient drive-thru service, a drive-up ATM, a cybercafé, coin-counting machine, after-hours depository, and safe deposit boxes.
