A fifth candidate has filed to run for Smyrna Town Council in the April 26 town election.
John S. Rhoades of Wheeler Circle filed March 10 for the 3-year at-large council seat. Sitting councilman Tony DeFeo has also filed to run for this seat, which is currently held by Councilman Larry Thornton.
The town’s District 1 seat is also up for election this year. Regina Brown has filed for this seat, which is currently held by Councilman Memphis Evans.
A one-year at-large council seat will be on the ballot as a special election to fill the remainder of the term that was started by former Councilman Bill Pressley. Robert Novotny of Lake Drive West and Thomas Carbine of South Main Street have both filed for this one-year term.
The deadline to file as a candidate is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 15 for all three positions.
Polling will take place on April 26 at the Citizens’ Hose Company firehouse at 103 W. Commerce St. in Smyrna.
