At the Clayton Town Council meeting Monday, the resignation of a police officer was announced, council discussed changing street sweeping to every other week, and the new town committee members were named.
Officer resignation
Clayton Police Chief Brian Hill read a letter of resignation from Patrolman Jason Bauer announcing that he will be ending his two and a half years at the Clayton Police Department and moving to the Middletown Police Department. Bauer’s two weeks’ notice began on Monday.
Council members approved his resignation and agreed that the vacant police position be put on hold for six months and then reviewed again after they’ve looked at the budget again.
New street sweeping schedule
Town Foreman Jeff Hurlock reported that the lift on the street sweeper needs to be fixed. The sweeper isn’t working well, but it is still running and can be used. It will cost the town about $10,000 to $12,000 to fix. Hurlock suggested sweeping to every other week rather than every week.
“If we limit sweeping to every other week hopefully it will hold out until next year,” Hurlock said.
The mayor and council approved street sweeping every other week to cut down on sweeper usage. There will still be sweeping on Wednesdays and Thursdays every other week, effective immediately.
