Julia T. Mast of Clayton, Delaware, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 in Capitol Health Care Services Dover, Delaware. She was 87.
Mrs. Mast was born August 17, 1921 in Clayton, the daughter of the late Fred and Mary Woods Burke. She worked as a waitress at several Smyrna locations including the original Smyrna Diner and completed her working career as a receptionist for Dr. Robert Donlick in Clayton.
She was a life member, charter member and past president of the Clayton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a Hall of Fame member of the Delmarva Volunteer Fireman’s Association Ladies Aux. , a past president of the DVFA Ladies Auxiliary Term 2000-2001.
She was a founding member of St. Polycarp’s Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna and a former member of the Ladies Sodality.
She was a former member of the V.F.W. Post #8801 Ladies Auxiliary and the 2005 Great Person of the Year for the Smyrna-Clayton area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Mast, a grandson, Joshua Mast, a brother and four sisters.
Mrs. Mast is survived by five children, Charles Mast of Smyrna, Margaret Anne Rogers of Clayton, Father Paul Mast of Ridgely, Maryland, Michael Mast and his wife Karen of Felton, and David Mast and his wife Rosemary of Smyrna; a sister, Sadie Voshell of Clayton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, June 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m., in Holy Cross Church, 631 South State Street, Dover. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6- 9 p.m. in the Clayton Fire Hall, Railroad Avenue, Clayton. Burial will be private.
