Florence Lillian “Doll” Naylor Carden, 76, of Smyrna passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Kent General Hospital-Bayhealth in Dover.
Born on November 25, 1932 in Blackbird, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert O. and Lillian Daniels Naylor.
Doll, as she was affectionately known by many, was a Delaware State News driver for 30 years, retiring in 2002.
She loved to crochet, work on crafts, spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and play with her children’s pets. Doll enjoyed visiting her grandson’s school and helping with his classroom parties. She enjoyed working on the computer and was known for the wonderful greeting cards she made for so many. Doll had a special talent for making others laugh and was especially fun to be around. She will be greatly missed by many, especially her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Billy A. Carden in 2001; three sisters, Mildred Davis, Jennie Gosser and Edna Naylor and one brother, Robert Naylor.
She is survived by a son, Donald Carden and his wife, Denise, of Townsend; two daughters, Kay Davis and her husband, James, of Smyrna, and Carolyn Shaffner and her husband, George, of Townsend; five grandsons, David Carden and wife, Dawn, Robert Davis and wife, Davey Ann, Billy Davis, Matthew Shaffner and Andrew Shaffner and wife, Missy; six great-grandchildren, Hunter and Lilli Carden, Kaylee and Kolbey Davis and Dakota and Abigail Shaffner and three extended grandchildren, Nicole, Tommy and Jonathan Trier.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 17 at 11 a.m., at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may visit Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday morning from 10-11 a.m. Doll will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Billy, in Townsend Cemetery.
