Charles Byron Ross Sr. of Clayotn died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital, Dover. His devotion and love for his family will be deeply missed.
He was born on June 23, 1929. He was a faithful member of the Smyrna Church of Christ. He loved people and truly enjoyed the fellowship with his church family.
Mr. Ross had been a farmer for 40 years, retiring in 1995. He was an honorary member of the Kenton Ruritan Club where he had served since 1982 and had held the position of president. He had been a member of the Delaware Farm Bureau for 20 years where he had served as director and had also served as director of the Smyrna-Clayton Southern States Cooperative. In addition, he served on the Agriculture Stabilization Committee (ASC).
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Tibbitt Ross of Clayton; a son, Charles B. Ross Jr. and his wife Laura McClements Ross of Smyrna; a daughter, Deborah Ross Galvin and her husband Richard Galvin of Colorado Springs; three grandchildren, Denise Ross Boyles and her husband Chris Boyles of Smyrna, David Ross and his wife Jennifer Barton Ross of Smyrna, and Randy Couden Galvin of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by two brothers, Vinson Ross and Frank Ross of Smyrna; and one sister, Mary Sue Ross of Smyrna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice Jones Ross.
Celebration of Life services will be held at the Smyrna Church of Christ, 1630 Joe Goldsborough Road, Smyrna on Sunday, July 5 at 3 p.m., where friends may call one hour earlier. William I. Kidwell will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Smyrna Church of Christ, P. O. Box 171, Smyrna, DE 19977. Arrangements are by Faries Funeral directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main Street, Smyrna.
