OBITUARY: Minnie “Gertie” Chase, 90

Minnie “Gertie” Chase of Clayton passed away at home Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009. She was 90.

Mrs. Chase was born April 17, 1919 in West Point, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Linford M. and Minnie Bean Fretz.

She worked as a laundry technician at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna for 23 years before retirement.

Mrs. Chase was a member of the Smyrna Wesleyan Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Chase.

She is survived by four children, James B. Chase of Middletown, Edna Louise Tolliver of Clayton, Richard A. Chase of Clayton, and Charles L. Chase of Kenton; a brother, Charles L. Fretz of Newark; a sister, Doris J. Arment of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m., in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, where friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium, Smyrna.
