Richard A. Harman Sr., of Smyrna, Delaware passed away at his home on Sunday, June 27, 2010. He was 68.
He was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Hubert and Ruth Harman.
He was a graduate of Wilmington High School and attended the University of Delaware.
He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years.
Mr. Harman was employed as a cost engineer with the DuPont Co. at the Louviers site, Newark, for 23 years, retiring in 1992. He later worked for Del Dot for 7 years, and retired in 2003.
He was a member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Smyrna, and a 4th degree Knight and co-founder of the Brother Vincent Council #7517 of the Knights of Columbus. He twice served as Grand Knight of the Council.
He was involved with many activities within his church and community, including serving on the PTO, Band Boosters, Smyrna-Clayton Pop-Warner, and CYO. He was an avid golfer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diane C. (Ruff) Harman, of Smyrna; two children, Michelle (Mark) Collier, of Magnolia and Rick (Laura) Harman, of Smyrna; five grandchildren, Makenzie, Nicholas, Piper, Dean, and Paige; two brothers, H. Frederick Harman and William Harman; and a brother-in-law, Allen Ruff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, July 2 at 10 a.m., at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna.
Friends may call Thursday, July 1 from 7-9 p.m., at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, and again Friday from 9-9:45 a.m.
Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Newark.
