OBITUARY: Sadie B. “Sara” Voshell, 90

    Sadie B. “Sara” Voshell of Clayton passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009 in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 90.
    Mrs. Voshell was born February 9, 1919 in Clayton, the daughter of the late Frederick E. and Mary Woods Burke. She worked as a ward clerk for the State of Delaware at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, Delaware until retiring in 1986.
    Mrs. Voshell was a charter member, life member and Past President of the Clayton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a life member and Past President of the V.F.W. Post #8801 Ladies Auxiliary and Past President of the V.F.W. Department of Delaware Ladies Auxiliary.
    She was also a founding member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clayton and St. Polycarp’s Catholic Church in Smyrna.
    Mrs. Voshell is survived by two sons, George E. Voshell, Sr. and his wife, Margie of Camden, Delaware and Philip F. Voshell and his wife Joan of Smyrna; two daughters, Mary Ellen DeBenedictis of Clayton and Frances Sampson and her husband Bob of Long Neck; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
    Mass of Christian burial will be offered Wednesday, June 24 at 10:30 a.m., in Holy Cross Church 631 South State Street, Dover.
    Friends may call Tuesday, June 23 from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna. Burial will be private.
    In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Friends of St. Joseph’s, PO Box 508 Clayton, DE 19938 or to Special Olympics Delaware, University of Delaware, 629 S. College Ave. Newark, DE 19716 or to Autism Delaware, 924 Old Harmony Road, Newark, DE 19716.
    Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna.
