    Debra “Penny” Exum, 49 of Smyrna died June 25, 2009 in Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
    Penny was born on March 3, 1960 in Chestertown, Maryland, and raised in Big Woods. She moved to Wilmington and had worked at First USA Bank and for Visiting Nurses of Delaware. 
    For the past 7 years she had lived in Smyrna and worked as a Dietary Aide for the State of Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill.
    Penny enjoyed knitting, cooking and reading.
    She is survived by her parents, Rosie Perkins-Herbert and Jackie E. Herbert Sr. of Clayton, and Clarence Exum of Phoenix, Arizona; 11 siblings, Terrance L. Exum of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Reginald G. Perkins of Wilmington, Jackie Herbert Jr. of Georgetown, Kimberly Herbert and Brady Couch both of Smyrna, Tracy Hammond of Wilmington, Shelia Exum of Chestertown, Maryland, Judy Exum of Arizona, Debra Exum of Raleigh, North Carolina, John Exum of Merced, California, and Kerri Exum of Martinez, California.
    The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3 at 12 noon in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross Street, Galena, Maryland, with a viewing from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in New Christian Chapel of Love Cemetery, Big Woods.
