Virginia H. “Peachy” Jones of Dover, formerly of Clayton, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 81.
Mrs. Jones was born October 22, 1927 in Dover, the daughter of the late Harvey C. and Elsie Solloway Hill.
She worked for the Smyrna School District for most of her career, retiring as an administrative secretary.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Ewell’s-St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clayton, the National Education Association, the Delaware State Good Sams RV Club and the Delaware Travelers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy C. Jones Jr. in 1997.
She is survived by two daughters, Becki Jones Shirey and her husband Craig of Clayton, and Carol Jones-Curl and her husband Gary Curl of Mendham, New Jersey; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be Monday, July 6 at 2 p.m., in Ewell’s-St. Paul United Methodist Church, at the corner of West Street and Clayton Avenue in Clayton, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way Suite 205 New Castle, DE 19720.
