Frances Louise Burris-Roop of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, formerly of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away peacefully at the Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Bethlehem on Wednesday January 27, 2010.
She was 89.
Mrs. Burris-Roop was born February 19, 1920 in Fairmont, West Virginia the daughter of the late Elijah M. Rice and Nancy Mae Johnston.
She owned and operated the family business, Burris Produce in Townsend, Delaware for many years with her late husband, George Burris Sr.
Mrs. Burris-Roop enjoyed playing cards, dancing, boating and fishing. She also enjoyed spending time with her great grand-babies. She had a fondness for bargain hunting and going to yard sales, as well as dining out.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Burris Sr. in 1970; and by her second husband, James Roop in 1990; and a daughter, Charlette Louise Burris in 1950.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Mae Brown-Weitzel and her husband James of Reading, Pennsylvania; a son, George A. Burris, Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Townsend; four grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Shannon, and George, III; and five great grandchildren, Colin, David, Robert, Charles, and Emma.
Viewing hours will be held Wednesday evening, Feb. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna. Services will be Thursday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
