I am a native Delawarean who was born in Wilmington, but grew up on a poultry farm in Kent County. My father was a past Master of the Milford Grange.
On Monday, June 16, a drastic move was made concerning the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village located at 866 North Dupont Highway, Dover, Delaware 19901, phone (302) 734-1618. The Board of that Museum fired all of the staff except two people. Those fired included the curator, Deb Wool, who has earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees and two Master of Arts degrees and Joyce Farmer, who has been with the Museum for 14 years. Their effective termination date was July 1, 2008.
This award-winning, non-governmental museum cannot be replaced in Delaware or anywhere. It took over 30 years to assemble the historical collection of Delaware farming equipment, out-buildings and memorabilia. This wonderful Museum and Village is located, unfortunately, on leased ground from Delaware State University.
Please contact your state Senators and Representatives, as well as our Congressional leaders’ offices – U.S. Sen. Biden, U.S. Sen. Carper and U.S. Congressman Mike Castle – in their nearest office to your residence or business. Ask them to get involved immediately to prevent the destruction of this important and irreplaceable educational museum.
Taking action now on behalf of all Delawareans could change the outcome of the fate of this wonderful addition to the agri-tourism industry and the funds it could provide to the whole region.
