Matt Denn is a good man.  I would like to share how he helped me.  As an administrator in a local school district, I had enrolled with a particular benefits package in May of 2005.  Since my husband and I had two children, we had always enrolled with an HMO simply because the co pays and prescriptions were inexpensive.  However, just three weeks after the enrollment process, I was diagnosed with colon cancer with liver metastases and heard the words, “You have three years, five if you are lucky.”  This was on a Friday, and by the end of the weekend, I had found a doctor who specialized in my disease in New York Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  Dr. Kemeny had pioneered a hepatic pump that infused chemotherapy directly to the liver and had met with incredible success.  Unfortunately, my insurance refused to permit me to go to New York even after my surgical oncologist went to bat for me.  It looked like I would be trapped for one year until I could enroll again, but I didn’t have a year to waste.  My daughters were 10 and 12, and I had to do everything that I could to be here for them.  Then, my sister got me in touch with Matt Denn.  Several emails later, I was miraculously given the green light for New York.

However, less than two years after, I faced another problem.  The insurance company refused payment of all the first year’s fees to the sum of $100,000.00.  For one year and to no avial, I tried to reason with the insurance company and the state.  Eventually, I had to turn to the only person who seemed to get things done, Matt Denn.  After one contact, within two weeks I learned that my medical bills would be covered.  The saga continued, as all sagas do, and finally this summer, after one more intervention from Matt Denn, my medical bills have been paid in full.

Until this summer, I had never met Matt Denn, but this man worked for me and my family to do the right thing.  Families in crisis can not possibly, and should not, have to place their energies into fighting battles beyond basic survival.  Matt Denn understands and cares about people and wants to dedicate his life to helping.  I am not a registered Democrat, but Matt Denn has my vote along with the vote of all my friends and family.  Without him, I might not have been here to write this letter. Thank you, Matt.
