    • Seen on Scene: Knights' 65th wedding anniversary at Ewell's-St. Paul Church

    • Thelma and Preston Knight (front) were honored by their church family at Ewell’s-St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clayton on Saturday with a dinner celebrating the Knights’ 65th wedding anniversary. About 150 people attended the dinner, which featured a video slide show of the Knights through the years and a tribute to the Knights by Kent County Levy Court, presented by Levy Court President Brooks Banta. The Knights have been active members of the church for its entire history, since Ewell’s Church and St. Paul Church merged. They were married in 1949, about the same time as the merger of the two churches was in the works. Preston was a member of Ewell’s Church, which was located on Main Street, while Thelma was member of St. Paul Church, which was located on West Street. The church buildings were moved and joined as Ewell’s-St. Paul United Methodist Church at the current location on the corner of Clayton Avenue and West Street. The first service at the combined church was in December 1951.
