A wanted Smyrna man allegedly fought with police during his Jan. 18 arrest.
Roberto T. Gonzalez, 35, of the 900 block of Smyrna Landing Road, is facing numerous charges, including attempting to remove a firearm from a police officer, after his Jan. 18 arrest, according to a Smyrna Police Department news release.
Smyrna Police say they confronted Gonzalez, who was wanted by the New Castle County Police, at 7:42 a.m. that morning after receiving word he was in the area of East Commerce Street and North Fairfield Drive.
When officers arrived at the scene to arrest Gonzalez, he allegedly tried to fight them off and attempted to grab an officer’s firearm, forcing another officer to tase him.
Gonzales, once handcuffed, then spat in the face of an arresting officer, according to the release.
Police transferred to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, after processing, in lieu of a $28,000 secured bond.
