A school bus driver was cited and another driver was injured in a four-vehicle crash on Route 896 in Newark on Wednesday morning.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash occurred at about 8:43 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway, near Winsome Way. According to police, Glenn D. Matthew, 53, of Newark was driving a 2005 International school bus south on the highway when he failed to see traffic stopped at a red light.

The bus, which was carrying three children and an aide, struck the rear of a 2006 Honda Accord driven by Meghan Wilks, 29, of Newark. Impact caused a chain reaction, forcing the Honda into a 2003 Dodge Ram driven by John J. Slawski, 44, of Newark. Slawski’s truck then struck the rear of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Kenneth Brown, 39, of Newark.

Wilks was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital, where she was treated for non life-threatening injuries, a report said. No other injuries were reported.

Matthew was cited for inattentive driving.
