A Dover man is in a coma at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital after being injured in an all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) accident Wednesday in DuPont Manor north of Dover.

At about 5:20 p.m., Jeremy T. Cook, 21, and a three-year-old boy passenger were traveling east on Harriet Street, east of Wayne Drive, on a four-wheeler. Police said the ATV came to a stop in the road and then lunged forward, causing Cook and the boy, who was seated in front of him, to fall backwards off the ATV and strike the ground.

Cook was taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital for treatment of head trauma and is now in a coma, police said.

The three-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital and was treated for minor injuries and released.

Neither Cook nor the boy were wearing a helmet, police said.
