Eagles win season opener 3-0 at the Upstate-Downstate Challenge at the DE Turf Sports Complex
The Smyrna High School boys varsity soccer team opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Concord Friday in the Upstate-Downstate Challenge at the DE Turf Sports Complex in Frederica.
The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:35 mark in the first half on a goal by Dakota Kerr, assisted by Nicholas Taylor.
Cornelius Yancey extended the advantage to 2-0 with a goal at 32:20 on an assist from Fitzgerald Freeman.
In the second half, Albert Toe scored for Smyrna with an assist from Taylor to give the Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead at the 52:30 mark.
Abdul Musa had six saves in goal to preserve the shutout for Smyrna.
NEXT GAMES: Smyrna plays Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Woodbridge at 6 p.m., followed by games at Sussex Tech Thursday, Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m., and at Wilmington Friends Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
The Eagles' first home game is Thursday, Sept. 21 vs. Cape Henlopen at 6 p.m.
