Jayla Smith scores 31 to lead the Eagles to a home win over the Panthers
Jayla Smith scored 31 points to lead the Smyrna High School girls basketball team to a 57-43 upset over Polytech Tuesday night in Smyrna.
The Panthers entered the game with a 10-6 record, while Smyrna was 4-14.
The Eagles soared to an 18-10 lead in the first quarter, but the Panthers pulled closer by halftime, 28-23.
In the third quarter, Smyrna outscored Polytech 14-7 for a 42-30 advantage on the way to the win.
Along with Smith's game-high point total, Jennifer Sloven poured in 12 for Smyrna. Erin Richard hit for six points. Marissa McClenton scored five, and Haley Harper added three.
