The Smyrna Eagles won the Henlopen North Division title Thursday night at Milford High School, defeating Cape Henlopen, 61-34, in a matchup that ended with an unfortunate off-the-court incident.
Smyrna took control early, gaining a 17-point advantage after just one quarter - a lead that would grow by nine at halftime.
Three Eagles finished in double-figures; Jaymeir Garnett led the way with a game-high 14 points, followed by Caleb Matthews with 11 and Greg Bloodsworth with 10.
Late in the game, with Smyrna still ahead by a big margin, a fight broke out behind the Cape Henlopen bench with Cape Henlopen players and fans. The confrontation quickly spread to the court leading officials to end the game.
An investigation is ongoing according to the Milford Police.
Smyrna will play Woodbridge Friday night for the Henlopen Conference title at Dover High.
