The defending state champion Smyrna High School boys basketball team will begin play in this year's state tournament tonight, March 1, hosting a second-round game at 7 p.m.
The Eagles, 19-3, are seeded third in the tournament and are one of the top eight seeds that received first-round byes.
In the second round tonight, Smyrna will host #14 Woodbridge in a rematch of the Henlopen Conference championship last week, won by Smyrna, 65-49.
Woodbridge, 15-6, advanced to the second round with a 86-59 victory over #19 Indian River on Tuesday.
If the Eagles win tonight, they'll move on to the quarterfinals Saturday, March 3 at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center against the winner of tonight's game between #6 Sussex Tech (16-4) and #11 Mt. Pleasant (16-4).
Smyrna defeated Sussex Tech twice this season, 75-61 and 66-52. Smyrna didn't play Mt. Pleasant.
