The Smyrna High School softball team hosts Charter School of Wilmington in the semifinals of the state softball tournament today, Thursday, May 24, at 4 p.m., after defeating Lake Forest in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

The Eagles have soared into the semifinals of the state softball tournament.

Smyrna High defeated Lake Forest 3-1 Wednesday in the quarterfinals in Smyrna.

The Eagles, seeded second in the 16-team tournament, will host No. 11 Charter School of Wilmington in the semifinals, today, Thursday, May 24, at 4 p.m.

The Force (13-7) upset No. 3 Delaware Military Academy 2-1 Wednesday.

During the regular season, Smyrna defeated Charter 8-3 April 17.

In the other semifinal game, No. 1 Caravel hosts No. 4 Appoquinimink today at 5 p.m.

The winners of each semifinal will play in the finals Saturday, May 26 at a place and time to be announced.

SMYRNA DEFEATS LAKE FOREST

In the Eagles' win over Lake Forest, Madison Drummond drove in the first run for Smyrna to help the team jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

The Eagles extended their advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the third before Lake Forest hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to make the score 3-1.

But the Eagles shut down the Spartans in the top of the seventh for the win.

Lexi Moore, Kaelyn Press, and Julia Thuer each scored for Smyrna, while Moore and Abby Mace each hit a double.

Pitcher Jessica Anderson started the game for Smyrna and Payton Dixon came on in relief in the sixth.

Both teams had six hits. Lake Forest had one error.
