VIDEO & STORY -- As part of Smyrna's 250th anniversary, the cardboard boat regatta fundraiser for Smyrna-Clayton Little Lass Softball will be held at Lake Como and will feature a cornhole tournament.
The Smyrna-Clayton Little Lass Cardboard Boat Regatta will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m., at Lake Como. The rain date is Aug. 25
Presented by Carlisle’s Marine, the regatta will benefit the Little Lass softball program.
Part of the Smyrna 250th anniversary celebration, the event will also feature a cornhole tournament, food and music. The cornhole entry fee is $20 per team.
For the regatta, sign-in starts at noon. The registration fee is $20 per boat.
The entire boat must be built from corrugated cardboard and duct tape. Pre-treated cardboard such as waxed cardboard isn’t allowed.
Any painting must be done at least a day before the event to cure. No paint is allowed on the day of the vent. Paint is intended to be used for decoration only, not for waterproofing. Only latex paint is permissible.
Each crew can have two people ages 12 and up. Every crew member must wear an appropriate personal flotation device.
Each crew member may use one standard oar (no kayak paddles).
Awards include Fastest Speed Award for the fastest time, the VanGogh Award for the most creative vessel and costumes and the Titanic Award for the best sinking.
