The Eagles dropped to 0-2 with the loss on the road Friday night.
It's deja vu for the Smyrna High School football team.
Last year, the Eagles lost to Middletown and Franklin, Maryland to start the season 0-2.
This season, after falling to Middletown in the season opener, the Eagles lost to Franklin 28-14 Friday night in Reisterstown, Maryland.
Now the Eagles are hoping history continues to repeat itself. After last year's 0-2 start, Smyrna never lost again on its run to its third straight Division I state title.
The Eagles will have two weeks to prepare for their next game. There is no game scheduled for this Friday, after Irvington, New Jersey canceled its game with Smyrna earlier this year because the school was changing conferences. Last season, Smyrna defeated Irvington 30-18. The Eagles couldn't find another opponent to fill the schedule so they are only playing nine games this season.
NEXT GAME: Friday, Sept. 28 at Cape Henlopen, 7 p.m. The Vikings lost their season opener 42-14 to Delmar and were scheduled to play last night at Suitland High School in Landover, Maryland.
