The Smyrna High golf team edged out Cape Henlopen and Sussex Central to secure third place at the Henlopen Conference golf tournament on May 21 at Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club near Dagsboro.
The Eagles finished with a team score of 355, behind only Sussex Tech (334) and Caesar Rodney (338) in the 11-team field. During a regular season match earlier in the spring, Smyrna upset Sussex Tech by two strokes at Garrisons Lake.
At the conference tournament, Alex Rector posted Smyrna’s lowest score with an 81, which was good enough for fourth place in the individual standings and just three strokes off the individual champion’s score.
Smyrna’s Chris Sapp carded an 88, followed by Tony Berryman (92), Connor Hamburg (94), Billy McKee (105) and Matt Storck (112).
