The Smyrna High wrestling team lost on the road at Sussex Central 45-17 Friday, Feb. 19 in a match that decided the Henlopen Conference Northern Division title. Both schools were undefeated in the division coming into the contest.
Former Smyrna High wrestler Cody Broomall, who recently transferred to Sussex Central, won his debut match for the Knights, 15-7, over the Eagles' Zach Boyles at 140 pounds.
Sussex Central took a 5-0 lead after the first match at 103 pounds, but then Smyrna's Spencer Rhoades pinned his opponent to put the Eagles in front 6-5.
David Hershberger extended Smyrna's lead to 9-5 with a 5-3 decision at 119 pounds.
Then the Knights won six straight matches to take command.
