The Smyrna High wrestling team crowned two conference champions at the Henlopen Conference tournament Feb. 20-21 at Cape Henlopen High School, while the Eagles placed second in the team standings.

Spencer Rhoades (112) and Cody Carbine (160) both claimed conference titles for Smyrna.

In the 112-pound finals, Rhoades edged out Polytech’s Jimmy Watts in a 4-3 decision.

Carbine won a 4-2 decision over Sussex Central’s Jay Matheus in the 160-pound finals.

Four Smyrna wrestlers took second place in the conference at their weight classes: David Hershberger (119), Brandon Poffenberger (125), Kenny Boyles (152) and Ryan Rife (171).

Finishing third in the conference for the Eagles was Zach Carbine (130).

Smyrna wrestlers David Letterman (135), Zach Boyles (140) and Tyler Foster (145) each placed fifth in the conference, while Anthony Ruggiero (189) and Barry Reece (285) placed sixth.

In the team points standings, the Eagles took second place with 211 points, behind tournament champion Sussex Central (268.5 points) and ahead of third-place Caesar Rodney (193 points).
