The Smyrna High wrestlers competed against some of the strongest wrestling programs in the region at Mount Mat Madness VII, held Jan. 15-16 at the Community College of Baltimore County.

Smyrna’s top performer at the tournament was Cody Broomall, who was crowned champion at 135.

In the 135-pound finals, Broomall won a 5-4 decision over Trevor Kushner of Westmont-Hilltop (Pa.). Broomall earned an 8-6 decision over Eric Fessel of Georgetown Prep (Md.) in the semifinals.

The Eagles also got top-three finishes from Cody Carbine, the runner-up at 145, and Kenny Boyles, who took third place at 160.

In the team points standings, Smyrna finished eighth out of 30 teams. Wyoming Seminary (Pa.) took first place, slightly ahead of second-place St. Mark’s.
