The Delaware Coalition for Early Learning is pushing to maintain state funding levels for the child care reimbursement program during the 2011 fiscal year.

The member supported coalition has scheduled Early Childhood Advocacy Day from 1:15 -2:30 p.m. March 17 at Legislative Hall in Dover. Their message to the General Assembly is to maintain funding levels for early learning “so children can learn and families can work.”

The early childhood workforce in Delaware consists of 6,000 child care center and home based providers, Head Start, Early Head Start and Education Career Alternative Program (ECAP) staff. Sixty-two percent of mothers with children under 6 are in the work force, according to the University of Delaware Center for Disabilities Studies.

The coalition encourages residents to join it as it petitions the government next week.
