Eddy Parker, Democratic candidate for the 19th District Senate seat of the late Thurman Adams, will not run in the Aug. 3 special election. The Sussex Democratic Committee is now left with the task of nominating another candidate to run.

Sussex County Community Organized Regiment (SCCOR) member Eric Bodenweiser said he was told by Sussex Democratic Chair Pat Ewing that Parker was stepping down "due to circumstances beyond his control."

Adams' daughter, Polly Mervine, came in second at in party caucus nominations last week, followed by former Sussex councilman Lynn Rogers.

If Parker is out of the running, Rep. Joe Booth (R-Georgetown) currently stands alongside Libertarian Party candidate and Milton resident Wendy Jones for the Senate district encompassing the northern half of Sussex County, although that doesn't figure to be the case for long.

Democratic party members will meeting at the Greenwood CHEER Center on July 8 (Wed.) to choose a new candidate.
