The Smyrna Farmers Market is returning for another season after its inaugural year in 2012.

Smyrna Manager of Planning & Zoning Janet Vinc – who helps run the market – said opening day is scheduled for Saturday, June 15. The market will run through Saturday, October 5.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the market will once again be on Market Street Plaza in front of town hall.

Smyrna resident Robin Bruner helps run the market with Vinc.

The town is currently in the process of reviewing applications and is working on various public relations endeavors to get the word out about the second season of the market, Vinc said.

Vinc said many of the vendors from last year are returning, and there are already a few new vendors who have joined the market. Last year, the farmers market averaged between 12 and 15 vendors per week.

"We hope to have at least 15 vendors this year," Vinc said. "Based on the success of last year's market, we hope to continue to have the same type of vendors – farmers, processors, local artisans, and craft workers."

The only thing changing from last year is the fact this year is a shortened season. Last year the town had 20 market days and this year's market has been shortened to 17 market days. Vinc said attendance – by customers and vendors – was down once the market went into October.

Vinc said all the feedback they've heard in response to the upcoming season of the market is very positive and it seems as though people can't wait for the June 15 opening day.

Vendors are encouraged to submit their applications via email at, by fax at (302) 659-4169, or by mail to P.O. Box 307, Smyrna, DE 19977, Attn: Smyrna Farmers Market.
