Ten thousand: the number of customers Chuck Tucker has inked at his shop, Walls of Wonder Tattoos.
His parlor has been open for more than a decade. After years of being on Lafferty Lane near the Cowboy Up Saloon, Tucker moved to a larger location on S. Dupont Highway in 2013, replacing the former Philly Pretzel Factory.
Q Why did you decide to start a business in Kent County?
A I pretty much grew up in lower Delaware. I love the locals and being in a town with a very high-military-and-college population. I knew I would be always meeting new people. Back in 2001, there were only three tattoo shops in Dover. I knew I wanted to make my shop different.
Q What are your greatest challenges in this business, and what have you done to overcome this?
A One of my greatest challenges in having this business is trying to stay relevant and keeping people happy. The bottom line is we provide a service and sometimes that doesn't fit with being an artist. We are a fickle bunch. I try my best to stay humble and grounded and to make people happy. We do our best to stay relevant by constantly learning and listening to our customers.
Q What makes your shop unique?
A The artists I have working with me make it unique. Not only are they talented tattooists, they are very creative in everything they do. We operate as a group, always trying to help one another become better artists and more successful.
