The organizers of the first Inn at Duck Creek Cultural Arts Gala donated more than $15,000 on Tuesday to the two beneficiaries of the event.

Representatives from the Smyrna Museum and the Smyrna Opera House each received checks for $7,700 from the Gala and thanked everyone who contributed to the event.

Donna Cantillon, president of the Opera House Board of Directors, said the board plans to use the funds to help pay for a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

The June 13 Gala , co-chaired by Donna Ignasz and Howard Johnson, featured dinner from the Inn at Duck Creek with wine tastings by Harvest Ridge Winery, spirit tastings by Painted Stave Distilling and beer tastings by Blue Earl Brewing Company, along with live music.

The guests of honor, Ellen and Ron Sayers, received tributes from the Mayor Joanne Masten, Kent County Levy Court President Brooks Banta, state Rep. Bill Carson and state Sen. Bruce Ennis for their dedication to downtown Smyrna and their contributions to the community both as residents and as owners of Sayers Jewelers and Gemologists.

The Inn at Duck Creek hosted the "al fresco" event on North Main Street, and the sponsor was the Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association.
