Emergency medical personnel performed lifesaving efforts on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting death of a man at a Townsend-area home early this morning.

At about 3:42 a.m., State Police were called to a home in the 500 block of Dogtown Road west of Townsend for a report of a shooting.

Police learned that two armed suspects had entered the home and confronted two male residents. During a struggle, one of the male victims was shot. Both suspects then fled in an unknown direction.

Emergency medical personnel performed lifesaving efforts on the shooting victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His body will be turned over to the Division of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy will be performed.

The name of the shooting victim is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin, police said.

The second male victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Police did not release his name.

The Homicide Unit is conducting interviews and collecting evidence. The investigation is in its early stages and more details will be released later, police said.
