Police said Corey Fahey, 41, died in the crash which remains under investigation.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash which claimed the life of a man on Wednesday near Townsend.
Police said the crash occurred at about 12:40 a.m., as a 41-year-old Philadelphia man was driving a 2005 Ford Escape north on Delaware Route 1, just north of Fieldsboro Road. For an unknown reason, the Escape drifted off the east side of the roadway and struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle then traveled approximately 50 feet north before coming to rest.
The driver, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported to the Christiana Care Middletown Emergency Room, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
Northbound traffic on Route 1 was restricted to one lane for about two hours.
