An inmate from the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown died Friday, July 22 following a lengthy illness.

Jeffrey P. McCann, 36, of Smyrna, was pronounced dead at Kent General Hospital in Dover at 3:50 p.m., according to the Department of Correction. His family has been notified.

McCann was serving a 25-year sentence for three counts of first degree robbery and two counts of attempted robbery. His sentence began on June 11,2012.

McCann's body has been turned over to the State Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy, as is standard procedure.

No foul play suspected, according to the Department of Correction.
