The Kalmar Nyckel is back in Wilmington.

The Kalmar Nyckel is back in Wilmington after its 2016 sailing season, which took it from Virginia to New England.

The ship will offer cruises, pirate sails and charters Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 15.

Kalmar Nyckel is a recreation of the Dutch-built armed merchant ship that brought Swedish settlers to the New World starting in 1638. The expedition was led by Peter Minuit, known for orchestrating the purchase of Manhattan from the native Americans for the Dutch. Measuring 141 feet long with a 25 foot beam, it has traveled about 3,000 nautical miles this season.

Kalmar Nyckel is available for charter cruises for private outings. Charters have a maximum of 49 passengers. Passengers are welcome to help pull lines, learn about the ship’s history or enjoy the scenery.

Tickets for Christina River sails start at $20 for children and $35 for adults. For information, call 429-7447 or visit kalmarnyckel.org.
